The cutesy-pie name might conjure up images of Ikea plasticware and screeching toddlers, but, in fact, this child-friendly café displays admirable restraint. You don’t have to be toting a tot to come here; the smart upstairs area is great for coffees, smoothies and light lunches whatever your age. It’s good to know, however, that the basement – with its toys, blackboards, on-screen Disney classics and sweet little play den – is especially for young kids. There are plenty of tables below stairs, so families can eat in the playroom if they wish. Three times a week there are morning activities for youngsters (rhyme time, story time or a puppet show). Food is a happy fusion of sweet treats and wholesome organics. The children’s menu is big on nursery favourites: shepherd’s pie, organic fish pie, macaroni cheese or sandwiches. We enjoyed a fresh spinach, feta and walnut salad, accompanied by a thick mango smoothie, while the children tucked into scrambled egg on toast. To follow, chocolate fudge cake and excellent cappuccino, plus own-made gingerbread men and ‘kiddieccino’.
