A local favourite, StringRay Globe Café strives to convey a multitude of influences simultaneously: colourful orange, blue and yellow walls suggest Latin American leanings (heightened on our visit by background music from Gotan Project); a bar serving draught beer and wooden pub tables outside nod to its former incarnation as a pub; and the menu, despite dishes from an english breakfast to a lentil moussaka, is Italian in origin. Pizza is the speciality: there are 19 varieties available. Deliciously thin-crusted, these include classics (margherita, fiorentina, calzone), as well as more unusual varieties (a mexicana comes with jalapeño chillies, minced beef and sweetcorn). All are excellent value, especially when you consider that a single pizza is likely to be enough for two people. Classic pasta dishes (nine in total) are also served, though the desserts seem something of an afterthought. Service can be rather erratic, but nobody seems to mind too much.
