  • Number 22

  • This year, Number 22 has added a conservatory, which provides welcome space in a hitherto tightly packed restaurant. Flickering candles, dim lighting and dark wood furnishings create an intimate atmosphere that’s great for an evening of good conversation. There is much to tempt on the predominantly tapas-based menu, which has a refreshingly modern take on Spanish food. Staff get full marks; our knowledgeable waitress was happy to take us through the subtleties of each dish before we ordered. The humble croqueta has here been given a makeover, and a crunchy plateful stuffed with spinach and goat’s cheese hit the spot. Next, succulent chorizo, sliced in half and standing proud, made a welcome change to what can be an oily offering. A mix of rabbit and sobrasada sausage was also a feast for eyes and belly. Much attention is paid to presentation, and dishes stream to the table on angular white plates: elegance epitomised. A creamy wedge of blue-veined picos de europa cheese provided a pleasing end to an above-average meal.

Really happy to have this fantastic little restaurant on our doorstep. The menu changes seasonally and avoids stereo-typical tapas meaning there's always something new and delicious to try. Service is friendly and attentive - and the wine list is also excellent. Highly recommended.

I agree with the Time Out review! This place oozes quality and the staff are professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The quality of the food and drinks are way above what you normally get locally.....I can't praise this place enough.

Being local, I've been to this place three times, hoping it would get better. It didn't. The staff were either scatty or snooty. Cocktails tended towards the Del Boy approach, in style if not in price. Dishes were oily, sometimes even rancid and overall, ingredients failed to impress. I'd love this place to be friendly, efficient and delicious, but sadly I've given up hope that this is going to magically happen.
