NB in May 2009 the Hoxton Grill(e) was taken over by Soho House Group, and it reopened with a new menu and without the 'e' on July 1 2009. Though not great changes have taken place, the review below refers to its previous ownership.
The restaurant attached to the hip Hoxton Hotel is stylish and the food surprisingly good. This being Shoreditch, open brickwork, leather seating, and exposed ducts come as standard, but the glass wall looking on to a courtyard is a nice touch. The open kitchen serves simple but well-rendered comfort food: steaks, burgers, and big salads (grilled swordfish niçoise, for example). Service is brisk and efficient. Grilled rump steak (on a wooden board) au poivre (in a jug) with chips and roasted vine tomatoes was excellent. Our other choice, roast duck, arrived wonderfully pink and tender, with buttery savoy cabbage and a suitably tart blackberry and sage jus. The cheeseboard is better than many, with sizeable chunks of applewood, camembert and stilton, and plenty of biscuits, fruited bread and chutney.

I am staying at the Hoxton and I LOVE the hotel itself, the staff, the location, but the food? Not so much. It is presented well, but it is the most boring, tasteless food I've ever been served. No spices and herbs are included. The food is like cardboard. For a foodie like myself, this food is good for sustaining life, but not much else.
