London's best review, food and drink news
This is a light and cheery refuge from the noise, grime and saunas of Eustons seedy streets. The same Italian family has run Pasta Plus for more than 30 years; populated by faithful regulars, it has a cosy, local feel. A good-value menu makes it a decent pre-train meal option: an alternative to fast food from the station concourse. Pasta dishes and Italian classics (theres no pizza) are on offer. A tegamino starter two eggs baked in cream, with a flavoursome tomato sauce was an example of simple ingredients, simply cooked, and was delicious. Gorgonzola-filled tortelloni with pine nuts was also good, but ultimately too heavy, especially in its parmesan cream sauce. Penne rustiche had fresh-tasting spring onion, broccoli and good chicken fillets, lightly dressed in extra-virgin olive oil. If pushed to complain, wed say that the presentation could be better, but fancy food isnt what PP is about. The wine list is concise but decent enough, with Italian labels (of course) taking centre stage. Tables in the conservatory area overlook a pretty garden; a pity that its private and diners cant get in.
