Having already given London it’s smartest steakhouse in W1, Gaucho naturally had to have a restaurant among the glass towers near London Bridge and the view as you pass on to the second floor is stunning. Gaucho boasts the UK’s widest range of Argentinian wines and, after a chat with Yanina, the Venezuelan sommelier, we were given a fruity malbec to accompany delicious starters of one meat and two cheese-and-ham empanadas (pricey at more than £4 each). The steaks were impeccable, the chorizo smoky and generously flavoured, the ribeye more subtle and perfectly marbled. Skinny chips and a dip of chimichurri sauce completed the experience. Most desserts are quite heavy, so we tried a couple of dessert wines before tango-ing off along the riverside.

had dinner at this restaurant last week with a colleague and two clients. food was very good and well prepared, the wine even better. the service (jose) was excellent and we were well looked after. this combined with beautiful views made the evening very successful.
After reading the time out reviews which were very good we decided to try out Gaucho.
Unfortunately for us it seems we went on a bad night as our service was so poor it was bordering on a joke. Failing to bring our cocktails, bringing our main courses 30 seconds (not lying) after our starters, mixing up our sauces for our mains, and lastly waiting 25 min for coffee which never arrived left me calling for the bill and ending a night of much disappointment.
The sad thing is that the steaks were pretty good and was cooked just as asked however using what can only be described as blunt knives to cut the meat was ridiculous - haven't they ever heard of steak knives.
Definitely not worth the expense and I would rather visit an inexpensive but just as good South African restaurant where eating meat is taken far more seriously or a more expensive Japanese restaurant serving Wagyu where you would happily hand over your money knowing that the quality and service is there. It’s such a shame that we accept such mediocrity in return for our hard earned money.
