The staff of Il Bacio welcome customers like old friends. Smiles and back-patting are followed by complimentary herbed olives and a basket of paper-thin Sardinian bread. The place is larger than it looks from the front, with two dining areas divided by a semi-open kitchen. On warmer days, the waiters open the french doors and put a couple of tables on the pavement – simultaneously treating passers-by to the likes of Dean Martin’s ‘That’s Amore’. The kind service and sensible prices make the restaurant a hit with young families and, while there’s no separate children’s menu, the kitchen will make half portions of most main courses. The menu has a list of standard Italian pizzas and pastas, as well as such Sardinian home-style specials as slow-cooked lamb. The wood-fired pizzas are absolutely enormous, and leftovers are put in a takeaway box without prompting. We avoided the chip-topped pizza, instead choosing goat’s cheese and parma ham options. Both were very salty, but our water jug was topped up throughout. Desserts include Sardinian favourite sebadas (sweet ravioli) and a heavenly tiramisu.

I like adventures. mooching around the city: galleries, gigs, seeking out tasty treats or splashing about in lidos. London is missing only...

This is one of the best Sardinian restaurants around. An authentic and extensive menu with excellent service and a great atmosphere. It's small and the drinks list is limited but this only makes it feel more homely and it doesn't leave your wallet too light.
