  • Chicago Rib Shack

  • A kick up the '80s

  • The original Chicago Rib Shack closed in 1999, but 2008 saw the relaunch of this icon of 1980s London (and symbol of its kitschest excesses). The location is a hitherto rather unlucky Knightsbridge site once occupied by short-lived Brazilian bar-eaterie Mocotó, and before that Oliver Peyton’s Isola. The spacious, two-floor set-up is rather grand in a jokey diner-ish way, with high-backed booths, bare brick walls and modish lighting. It’s probably best suited for parties and group dining, as the food rarely rises above reasonable. Our baby-back ribs were decent, as was a fillet steak, but the beef brisket and the tender pulled pork were totally overwhelmed by the gratingly sweet sauce in which they’d been drowned. Starters of chicken wings and stuffed potato skins were little better. Portions are huge. If you make it to dessert, expect the likes of chocolate sundae with brownies and aerated cream, and mississippi mud pie. Despite all this, booking is in our experience essential – though some tables are set aside for walk-ins.

Had a really good time at the Rib Shack over the weekend. Decorated due to Independence Day it was lively and busy. Food was great - ribs juicy and the sauce was delicious - real BBQ sauce. Left full and happy!

Wow. I have to say this was the worst food I have ever eaten out. The meal started with chicken wings and while it said it was accompanied with blue cheese dressing we got sour cream which is just plain weird. The ribs were dry and the sauce was sickly sweet. Everything we ate tasted old. I have lived in Chicago and using the name is a disgrace to a place that really knows what ribs should taste like. When I told the waiter that my ribs were the driest I had ever tasted he said "Sorry about that" and walked away. It really should be shut down.

Dined at the chicago rib shack last night and had a really good time. Had an american waitress who was lovely and smiley. Had the ribs which were great - the sauce is really good and so are the other bits. Need to take my nephew as he loves chicken wings and ribs so will be back!

Dined at the Rib Shack last night and thought the place was great. Really lively, good service and amazing ribs - best I've had in a long time and I am fussy!

Went to the Shack almost a year ago in the opening week of the re-launch and was quite disappointed - chicken was dry, ribs were nothing special. The sides weren't bad - but not as good as they were at the original restaurant.
As we were in the area yesterday we thought we'd give it another chance - what a mistake!!
Ribs and pork were awful; the sides were a poor excuse for what they should have been – especially the other bits, which were like the equivalent of frozen oven chips - baked cubes of potato - what's that all about?!!!
Just as I was thinking it, my boyfriend said to me 'it's like being at an overpriced TGI Fridays, but worse' - talk about taking the words out my mouth.
The only good thing was the glasses they served the beer in.
Total waste of money - will definitely not be going back.

I visited a few weeks ago with my children, as I loved the original place. The place was half empty, the service happy but slow. They even forgot to put the paper bibs on my kids. The food a total disappointment. NEVER AGAIN, very sad as the whole resurrection story is so appealing.

Clearly the people posting so silly positive in reply to this article work for The Chicago Rib Shack. Let me agree with the real posters and oh EVERY review that has been written about this place. Ribs are down right bad, sub par. Service is TERRIBLE staff are rude. I am highly disappointed as I live just around the corner and was really hoping for a great new Rib Shack in the city! But this place fails in every way the horrible fake decore, bad atmosphere to just down right rude service and poor food. Looks like I still have to make the trip down to Bodeans in SoHo if I want good ribs and service.

Ha d a bone'tastic night on Saturday at The Rib Shack, just as it was in my childhood.
I reserved a booth for 15 of us and it really made the meal special.
Thank you to Sinead who topped my cake with candles that you cannot blow out!!!!

Had really fun meal with my new 'date' the other night; the bone apetit bibs and meat in teeth moment definately broke the ice and we are now planning on a return next weekend for cocktails. This place has a really great relaxed atmosphere and food is delicious.
