The light and airy Morgan Arms is a perfect local. As well as being a great venue to meet people (Friday night is branded Doctor and Dentist Central), it also serves fabulous food. In a separate, quieter dining area we drooled over a menu on which starters included creamy goats cheese topped with pesto on marinated artichoke and rocket, and a superb ham hock ravioli (slightly overpowered by an onion marmalade, with a watercress garnish that could have been punchier). A fellow diner described her oysters as some of the best shed tasted. A main of steak and onion pudding was well rendered, but had a slightly oversweet flavour. The kale, mash and root veg julienne was perfectly cooked. Other main courses included crispy pork belly with thai lentils and pak choi, and confit of duck with buttered kale and toulouse sausage. We had no room for desserts, but they included rhubarb filo tart and a cheeseboard. Service was friendly and utterly professional. Prices are reasonable, and Adnams Bitter is on tap. If we lived in the area wed certainly be regulars, especially on Fridays.
