  • Sloane Square restaurant

  • Tom and Ed Martin, well-known for their gastropub group including favourites such as the Gun and White Swan, appropriately opened this rather beautiful Sloane Square dining room the week of the Chelsea Flower Show. It was named in tribute to Sir Hans Sloane, and its decor celebrates the natural world; check out the sensational wood-framed chairs and gorgeous botany-flavoured tableau on the back wall. Food (including afternoon tea) is served most of the day and there are majestic roasts on Sundays. Dinner might be poached gull’s egg with chorizo, alsace bacon and fresh peas, followed by an assiette of Scottish Blackface lamb. Breakfast comprises all the usual cooked and continental options, perfectly presented. Finish with a rich pudding (cherry and white chocolate panna cotta, whisky crème brûlée), an ice-cream coupe or the monthly-changing selection of British and French cheeses served with chutney, oatcakes and muscatel grapes. For breakfast, kipper on toast with poached egg was perfectly peppery and smoky. The pancakes seemed rather thin, but the maple syrup served with them was the real deal and the blueberries were fresh and juicy. We were equally won over by the service, and generally elegant atmosphere.

This is by far the coolest, sexiest, and hippest place on Sloane Square, and in Chelsea. I love it. It is very busy, but a place this good will never be anything but. The food is always amazing, but I generally frequent The Botanist due to their ridiculously delicious cocktails... An absolute must, on your 'must do' list.

My wife and I visited Botanist on a Saturday 2 weeks ago for breakfast. We had high expectations of this restaurant but was very much left disappointed. Our meals arrived 50 mins after we had ordered. The waiter (supervisor) apologised and offered us extra coffee and juice on the house. We ordered a coffee and orange juice but it never arrived. To top it off, he did not apologise and I was charged 12.5% for service. Despite good food, I definitely felt gutted when I left. For the price on the menu, the standard of service is way below par. I will stick to our regular Tom's Kitchen and High St Brasserie for breakfast.

We visited the botanist Satrday night for dinner. The atmosphere was loud and buzzy, but was what we were looking for to start our evening out. The halibut for two was tremendous and the waiter was professional and unobtrusive whilst providing the perfect level of service. I would and will definately be back and can highly recommend the Botanist.

We took our grandmother for afternoon tea and it was pure charm - and carb heaven - on a three-tiered cake stand...
Dainty yet satisfying crust-less sandwich selection; the best scones I have ever had; a choice of fruit tarts/dense chocolate brownie - and a pot of tea. Order online and you get complimentary champers to really perfect the gastronomic delights. Beautiful décor and classy service complete the experience. Let them (and us, please!) eat cake - at the Botanist!

I've been here twice, once for Sunday roast which was fantastic and second time we went for breakfast where we had the blueberry pancakes. Unfortunately they were the worst pancakes I've ever had, they were like pancake jelly. The service and surroundings however were really nice. I would definitely go back, just not for breakfast.

Having read your glowing review we rang this restaurant 10 days ago to book a table for last night. It was to be a birthday dinner for 3 people and we requested a quiet table in a corner.
When we arrived our small table was right in the middle of the room and surrounded by tables of drinkers, not diners, all shouting loudly to make themselves heard. it was completely impossible to hear anything at all . The adjoining bar section, which was jammed, had loud music as well and was overflowing into the 'dining' room. The 'greeter', once she had struggled to hear us, tried her best but said that there was nothing she could do for us, which was clearly true. She was unable to find the manger.
We left in desperation and incredibly luckily found somewhere else so the birthday was not ruined.
The review is correct in that the room was large and airy and in the day time is probably very attractive but it was impossibe to tell last night. They clearly have a problem with noise levels since she said there are plans for alterations. Until then, If you are looking for an evening drinking with la group of friends in Sloane Square then this would be ideal for you. If you are looking to eat and have a conversation then go elsewhere.

This restaurant was fantastic! The service was top notch and the food amazing. I had the sea bass cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. My boyfriend had the patridge. It was so tender and nearly melted off the fork - again amazing. I couldn't fault this restaurant in anway and would recommend this to anyone!
    Fantastic!

I really love this restaurant. It is just what Sloane Square needed! There are fabulous cocktails and a great and well rounded wine list. The food is all cooked to a high standard and the menu changes seasonally which made me know that the chef cares about the products he uses. Our waitress and managress that we had were both very lovely, knowledgeable and helpful making us have one of the best nights out we have had in london for a long time. I did feel that the space was quite loud however, but the managress informed me that this was being looked into and hopeful to be sorted shortly. I am happy to say that this is my new local haunt!

The Botanist is fantastic!! Such a great atmosphere, it somehow creates a very relaxed, but excitingly vibrant ambience, it was brilliant. I haven't actually eaten as yet, but if the cocktails are anything to go by, I thoroughly look forward to dining there soon! Definitely given Sloane Sq. a much needed successful makeover.

This should be a real gem, but it isn't quite there. We went for dinner - The Botanist has a really lovely 'twinkly' atmosphere, the front windows were open on to Sloane Square which was fantastic.
The food, which is of course the main part, was good, but not great. Our starters of scallops, and crab pasta, were beautifully presented but did not amaze. My friend's Dover Sole was nicely done but she had no side order with it due to the poor service (see below!). The steak that I ordered medium rare arrived medium to well-done. It wasn't even near the range of the best steaks I've ever eaten, but was a quality piece of meat and I didn't complain.
The service started off great - friendly, charming, not overwhelming. However, as the restaurant became busier, things fell to pot. Side orders didn't arrive, and when we asked for them the waitress confessed she had forgotten to order them. After we'd finished eating, 2 side orders of spinach arrived when we'd only ordered one! We asked for a bottle of wine which didn't arrive either, when we asked for it the waitress said she was trying to cool it for us! When it eventually arrived she poured some, disappeared off with the bottle to some ice buckets at the side of the room, and when we wanted our glasses refilling it took 10 minutes to get someone to bring it back over! We asked them to leave it on the table because they were so busy, and they refused. The waitress also used the fact that she was 'very busy' as an excuse for serving us badly! There were a large number of waiting staff milling around the restaurant and its kitchens looking a bit overwhelmed and confused, and the table next to us received worse service than we did with their main courses taking an age to arrive. Generally, this place needs a good maitre d to knock the service into shape!

Well. I recently arrived in London chasing a dream. I'm fun, good natured and full of energy. I'm looking for that chemistry that seems hard to...
