Ruddles County, Summer Lightning, Timothy Taylor Landlord, and Peroni (among others) on tap – the beer’s not thrown out with the bath water at this exciting new refurbishment. The Princess Victoria’s sheer size gives it the edge over many competitors, for there’s room to house cheerfully loud drinkers as well as dining couples and families. Tables are plentiful in both bar and dining room – the latter including a long communal set-up where we ate after enjoying beers by the impressive horseshoe-shaped, marble-topped bar. Our waiter, a qualified sommelier, confessed he knew more about wine than the menu, but worked conscientiously to ensure everything was just so. Brawn, the least attractive starter, was successful thanks to its deep flavour and moist texture. Terrific triple-cooked chips came with accurately chargrilled 28-day-matured ribeye (the evening’s most popular order), but the Princess Victoria can do fancy too, as shown by a delicious hake fillet with clams, smoked eel, macaroni and vegetable cream sauce. Desserts featured superb ice-creams: vanilla with cherry clafoutis, rhubarb with a jamaican ginger cake and rhubarb compote – though the latter felt like two separate puds. The sensational wine list offers a choice of carafe sizes plus 175ml glasses; diners are encouraged to mix and match with their food. No persuasion needed.

I am so pleased that the PV (as we call it already!) has been nominated for this award so early in its life.
We have been waiting for a high quality offer like this to open in the area for so long.
My friends and i eat and drink here and are blown away by the offer. The standard of the food and service is fantastic.
I wish the owners the greatest of success they deserve it!
The pub itself is a state of art,top quality finishings. The food also was great,we had a nice steak, well prepared. The only drawback is the staff, really poor trained. Its a shame regarding that the place has a huge potential.
The place is really beautiful, but behind all the decoration lies a very unfriendly and unprepared staff. The manager is also rude and arrogant.
The experience wasnt that great.
The atmosphere is heavy, the staff looks scared.
I had dinner here last Saturday and the lamb was superb. Probably the ncest flavored lamb I have had in years. It is a limited menu alright but for good reason, so that each meal is close to perfection. i had the cheese plate to follow the main course and though it was not particularly great the overall meal warrents 10 out of 10. My housemates and I were very impressed with the service also and though it was lacking a small bit in atmosphere I am sure that will come in time as it's a beautiful pub.
All that glitters is not gold. Great refit and good but limited menu. Unfotunately the staff and especially owner is rude & unfriendly. With this attitude, the establishment does not offer what I would class as a good evening out.
The Princess Victoria is superb. The weekday lunch outstanding quality 2 courses for just £10 - and the Saturday market coming soon too.
