  • Galapagos Bistro-Café

    Budget choice
  • It could be the screenplay for a triumph-of-the-little-guy film; cosy little Galapagos (the owner is from Ecuador, the chef Burmese) used to be a deli until the arrival of two supermarket giants on its patch threatened extinction. Unwilling to bow out, the business adapted, presumably heeding the theory of natural selection hit upon by Darwin while exploring the very islands that give this dining room its name. So, post- reinvention, it’s now a very pleasant café-restaurant. Comfy corner sofas, fresh flowers and shelves stacked with boxes of tea and other deli cast-offs make a visit here feel a little like stepping into somebody’s front room – an illusion enhanced by the loyal locals who have made the place their home from home, and the incredibly friendly staff. Complimentary olives and canapés are a thoughtful touch on our arrival, thereafter the set dinner menu is short and very sweet, not least for its price – two courses for just £10.50. Mains of fisherman’s pie and merguez sausage with spicy rice were both fine examples of cheap-eat fodder. However, it’s in puddings that Galapagos excels. Our Mexican pecan pie was nicely spiced with cinnamon, while a chocolate fondant was rich and moist.

How can you have given Galapagos 2 stars, you meanie!
Galapagos is a great little place and more importantly a real one!
International cuisine meets home cooking in this Battersean bijoux bistro. The atmosphere is bohemian in the truest sense of the word - none of your sienna miller "Bought-ho" nonsense - and the owners and staff are lovely! You feel like you are in someone's house because you pretty much are! An amazing example of a REAL restaurant in a city overrun with overpriced chains and lazy kitchens. Whether you are from down Sowf or a northerner with a sense of adventure...GO TONIGHT!

This is a great local place which works well as a cafe in the day and a resturant in the evening. Food is fantastic with the specials allways worth a try.

Moving to Battersea last year, Galapogas was the first place we ate after an exhausting day lugging boxes. The owners made us feel so welcome, the service was great, and the food tasty and incredibly reasonable. I'd heartily recommend the set menu, which changes daily ... especially the gorgeous desserts.
Ten out of ten, a lovely local haunt.

After discovering Galapagos over a year ago when we moved to the area, we've been hooked (and so have visiting family and friends). Elaine and Steeve are extremely welcoming and friendly, the food is amazing and the service first class. We eat here frequently and there's always a new dish on the specials menu to try - never once been disappointed. Fantastic atmosphere and very reasonable prices - highly recommended!

This place is great, the food quality just blows me away, and the cost,? I wouldn't feel cheated if I had to pay twice the price. It's a very welcoming place to go. And guys, I love the music!

My husband and I found this place and eat there regularly, it's our favorite place to go now. Food is so good, never had something we didn't enjoy, I'm a veggie and can always find something new to try and I can't leave without sampling a delicious dessert. Nice to see this place being recognised for good food reasonably priced and wonderful atmosphere.
