Recently opened, Pomegranate is linked to 19 Numara Bos Cirrik , one of London’s best chains of Turkish grill restaurants, but has taken the excellent cooking upmarket. Our courses were served on designer plates, atop tables decorated with tall white candles. The appealing corner site allows large windows on two sides, and tables outside (beneath distinctive bright red sunshades). To start, we sampled excellent kalamar: clothed in a light batter, the seafood had no trace of toughness. Both our main courses were a little out of the ordinary for London Turkish cuisine. Shepherd’s fry-up, as the name suggests, was fried rather than grilled, mixing pepper, mushroom and lamb – but it was tasty and certainly not greasy. Lamb beyti came wrapped in fine saç bread with sauce sizzling on top. Extra plates of onion with pomegranate and chilli onion were supplied with these dishes, as was a salad. Pomegranate was quiet on the night we visited, which has never been the case with its relative in Hackney. We hope the word will spread about the exciting food to be had here.

the food was excellent and the staff was very polite,,the kebabs were one of the best i have ever had,,absolutely i will come back
Terrible! Over priced, poor selections, unwelcoming staff.
I had the £35 mixed grill, which was awful, very bad meat, and far too salty!
I wont be going back!

This summer i visited turkey and i really loved it due to the fact their food is 1 of the best food i ate in my hole life. I found the same taste pomegranate recently. Me and my kids love turkish food. Expecially charcoal grilled food is my favourite.
Real shame its changed owners - used to be great, but food is now expensive, menu is small, and not very good anymore. Not gonna go back.
As Escale (it's predecessor) this place used to be heaving, now it's changed owners, name, and menu, and it's fallen off a cliff. It is always empty now. AVOID.
I booked the restaurant after reviewing the Escale website and reviews. I only realised later that it had changed ownership and name to Pomegranate, and decided to take a chance - this proved to be a mistake.
The menu has significantly decreased in size, the choice of starters in particular is quite disappointing. They have also stopped serving fish which was a bit of a highlight in some of the reviews of the last restaurant that I had read.
The starters were actually quite good - the falaffel in particular. However the mains were fairly poor. They got 2 of the orders wrong, the food was pretty bland, and my yoghurt kebab was a few bits of meat swimming in a soup of yoghurt - it was awful.
The worst part of the evening was the prices which are absurd. The main courses are typically £16 each - this is 60% more than Escale was charging, and you need to order side orders with many of the dishes. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to pay high prices in the right restaurant - but this is not it. The starters are £6 each which is not too bad, but if you want to get the selection of starters, it's £15 per person!!!
The ambience of the restaurant is also not great. The biggest problem is that they have installed a flame grill where the bar used to be. The extractor couldn't deal with the smoke fully which was causing some of our table to cough a bit. This was on a very quiet night, but on a busy night (if they ever get them) it would be awful. One other point which I didn't like was that they have put pictures on the menu - maybe I am being a bit niggly, but it made me feel like it was a bit like a kebab shop - not what you want when you are paying £40 per head.
The final problem with the evening was the service - not only were they quite rude to me when I said they had got my order wrong, but on leaving when we complained the waiter said "the only thing I won't accept is arrogance". The closest I have got to Basil Fawlty in my life - brilliant!
So to sum up, if you want to spend £16 on a chicken shwarma, spend the evening breathing in smoke, served by Basil Fawlty himself, then I highly recommend this restaurant. If not, avoid..
I had a dreadful meal here a while back and won't be returning.
I live locally and judging by it's constant lack of customers, it would appear that i'm not alone.
Best Avoided.
