  • Hiba

  • A Lebanese outpost in previously uncharted Borough High Street, Hiba has stylish, retro furnishings of olive-green and brown. The look may not be classic Lebanese, but the food is. All the favourite meze are here, though a couple of details are absent: warmed pitta was served rather than puffed-up Lebanese bread; and the traditional bowl of fresh salad vegetables was missing. Small points perhaps, but they hindered our enjoyment of an otherwise superb spread. Houmous beiruty was dense and luscious, with a touch of chilli adding an extra dimension; falafel were perfect (crunchy on the outside, soft inside and warmly spiced with cumin); samak harra (little pieces of fish in a hot tomato and chilli sauce) packed a punch; tabouleh was light and lemony; and salty grilled halloumi added to a great mix of strong, fresh flavours. We were rather taken aback to discover there was no fuul (a bit like a fish and chip shop having no fish), but the manager got the kitchen to rustle us up a basic version. Helpful service and great food, then. We just wish Hiba would reinstate those vital elements of the Lebanese dining ritual: bread and veg.

    Go with freinds!
Excellent Lebanese restaurant. Very fresh tasty food, all presented and served very nicely. The set menus provide a good taste of some of the fab mezzes and reasonable value (especially the 4 person one with a bottle of house Lebanese wine (yummy)) Realistically I think you want a group of at least 4, that way you can get to try more of the mezzes, which are the best bit.

The restaurant is conveniently located very close to Borough Underground station.
The decor looks really good with a very modern feel, and features lots of round tables perfect for big groups.
Authentic Lebanese food is reminiscent of a mix between greek and moroccan. The main courses are a generous size, and very well cooked. And for dessert he Baklawa are to die for! There were no complaints on service time.
The restaurant never seems to be very full. This maybe due to its relatively high prices especially for an area with mainly pubs, offices and youth hostels.
Worth a visit. Three courses would cost around £23 excluding drinks. As the main courses are large don't over order on the mezze to start.
