Tequila bar Green & Red is miles away from the world of studenty tequila slammers. The staff’s knowledge may be patchy, but only 100% agave tequila is served. Curious cocktails include the Pancho (a deliciously spicy tequila-sour type of tipple made with egg whites) which deserved to be served in a decent martini glass, especially at £9.20 a pop. The menu offers a limited selection of tapas. We enjoyed the crisp yam-bean salad with sheep’s cheese and roasted peanuts; and a lime-drenched octopus ceviche. Mains-sized ‘platos fuertes’ include the likes of stuffed chayote, crisp pork belly with ribs, and roasted hake with a rather disappointing pasilla chilli sauce. The decor is all wooden floorboards and panelling, with the odd mini-shrine of crucifixes and icons, and a wall of Mexican photography. Music is loud. A Day of the Dead mural leads to a clubbier basement.

Really enjoyed our night out here. Bewildering number of tequilas meant we drank a different margarita with each round. Dinner was good and the club downstairs was slammed.
Recently had the worst calamari I've ever come across at this place. Didn't have mains but found the starters and sides all pretty average with the exception of decent guacamole.
OK place for drinks, especially if you like tequila, but given the choice in the area it's nothing special.
