This South Indian vegetarian chain now has four branches, this Covent Garden one being the newest. It looks much the same as the Hammersmith original, with smooth blond-wood walls dotted with elegant brass figurines of Shiva, Krishna and other legends from the Hindu pantheon; the cooking of Sagar originates in Udipi in Karnataka, a temple town. There are myriad variations on rice and spice to be had here, from crisp dosais (a few kinds) to uthappam, flat savouries which at first glance look like pizzas. The thalis are reliable too: various selections of mild and light curries ranging from thorans (grated vegetable stir-fries) to payasam (a runny dessert containing cashews).
