  • Daddy Donkey at Leather Lane

    Budget choice
  • Burrito takeaway

  • By Charmaine Mok

  • If you have a hankering for a burrito as well as a cheap handbag, Leather Lane is the place to be. Nestled among the bric-a-brac, cheap shoes and pinafores is this behemoth of an operation – Daddy Donkey is a self-proclaimed ‘kick-ass Mexican grill’. Started by Joel Henderson in 2005, the stall has grown massively over the past few years but has still managed to keep the quality of their offerings consistent. Whether you’re having the cutely-named ‘three amigos’ (three small tacos), a ‘naked burrito’ (sans tortilla, replaced with salad) or the Daddy D burrito, choose from six fillings (a step above other burrito stalls), including tomatillo beef (shredded beef cooked with green tomatillos and lime salsa; £5.95), picodillo (ground beef cooked in with garlic, onion, paprika, cumin, oregano, chipotle and tomato; £5.50). The combinations are endless, but there is one constant – be prepared to queue.

I really don't like these guys; they charge far too much for a burrito that they sell out of a van. Other places, who rent expensive premises, manage to charge a fiver. The staff are surly too; if I was making so much easy money, I'd have a constant smile on my face.

Really disappointing. I thought the queue would mean that the food was good. Soggy burrito, not enough filling and overpriced. I tried to tell the guy serving that he needed to put more meat in his burrito and he just got really angry. Won't be going back!

Daddy Donkey is by far one of the best eateries in the area!! The burritos are great, the service is top notch and the mammoth queues are well worth the wait!!!
