  • Excellent poolside café

  • By Jessica Cargill Thompson

  • You don’t have to go swimming at Brockwell Lido to enjoy its new poolside café (an unobtrusive side door lets you through the wall from the roadside). Light, airy and super-relaxed, this locally run venture embraces both healthy eating and comfort food nostalgia with heaps of fluffy scrambled eggs served on crunchy wholemeal toast, free-range bacon baps, organic porridge, fresh fruit and granola, blueberry pancakes smothered with maple syrup (a tad eggy on the batter mix), freshly squeezed orange juice and sticky pastries.

Clientele is a broad church: hardy swimmers covered in goose bumps and wrapped in towels, post-whippersnappers parents and toddlers, and home workers availing themselves of the free wi-fi and strong (Union) coffee. Brunch is served throughout the day and although the pool itself closed for the winter from October 4, the café remains open all year round.

We have lunch here pretty often and it's always good. The cake selection is always a winner along with the healthier salad options.
We also recently went for an evening meal there (which they only do at weekends at the moment). Highly recommended. Fresh and seasonal food. Everything we had was excellent. Only reason I'd take a star off is the service was a little slow, although very friendly and helpfull at the same time.

We had the most lovely dinner here last week. Moroccan Meatballs were divine and the lemon cheesecake just heavenly. A new business just starting out with the absolute want to make your evening (or day) perfect .... give it a try

actually, the pool opening was extended to 17th Oct (so far!), so you've still been able to watch us powering up & down while you consume your bacon baps etc. it's a great place - come & join us!
