  • Small & Beautiful

    Budget choice
  • Bright and cheerily decorated, Small & Beautiful comes close to living up to its name with its stripped wood furniture and intricately tiled foor. The food – an international mish-mash of dishes – is hit and miss, but prices are incredibly low, especially if you opt for the £5.50 lunch deal. Roasted pepper paté and smoked chicken salad worked well; deep-fried squid was a little too rubbery and chicken wings were soaked by an over-sweet tomato-based sauce. Mains of pork escalope, grilled chicken breast and ‘puffy duck' (roasted duck in a tasty puff pastry) were generously portioned but middling in quality. Although not the richest food experience out there, a trip to Small & Beautiful will provide you with a decent enough meal, a reasonable bill, and friendly, attentive service.

I think the TIme Out review is far too harsh. Last night we had fabulous chili frogs' legs, lovely Puffy Duck & comforting risotto. The waiter was happy to bring me a portion of spinach when I asked, even though it wasn't on the menu. Two courses, for two people, beer & a good wine for under £40. Really good value & the staff were pleasant & efficient.

I completely disagree with any bad review of Small and Beautiful, the staff have twice opened early to let me and my friends in for one of their lovely coffees and I've been there countless times with many different people and never heard complaints, only praise! To leave with change from £20 after two main meals and a carafe of wine is truly surprising every time, and the food is better quality than in most chains that seem to get away with serving microwaved and cardboardy blandness for the most part!
The puffy duck is much loved by all the men I know and the ambiance, Tiger Island and laid-back, entirely unpushy service is a hit with the women. Generally beloved by all and a little gem that doesn't even have to jostle for elbow room on Kilburn High Road as it's often packed every night of the week!
Have I expressed my love of Small and Beautiful enough? x

could do with some more vegetarian options, but of the ones they had they were delicious and super reasonable. great vibe too.

Absolutely fantastic. Girls night out - lovely food - brilliant service, excellent value for money and lovely atmosphere. Not one for those who like to dine somewhere with snob value - just a brilliant little gem that I'll certainly be recommending and coming back to

I was incredibly disappointed by my Sunday Roast here today. True, it was very cheap at under a fiver, but even though, you still expect the food to be edible.
We were initially sat with some dry pieces of bread, without any butter or oil, and a dish of olives but with no means of picking them up barring fingers! It was about at this point I became irritated by the dramatic 'silent movie' style piano music that was playing a little too loud to be considered "background".
The lamb was very fatty, and the yorkshire pudding was a joke - it was literally a doughnut on my plate. When I requested some more veg (this having come with 2 small potatoes, and 3 slices of burnt carrot) I was told that this was "supposed to be like that". However, I was brought a plate of more sliced, yet burnt, carrots but unfortuntely after I had finished my meal. The waitress then took away my plate, but ignored my partner's plate for a good 10 minutes.
I won't be returning as I'd prefer to pay twice that and have a decent meal.

The food was average and the service was really poor.

Best value meal i found in london. Could not believe how good the food was for the price and kept coming back long after i had moved out of the area. Suspect it may have improved since 2007 as there was a large fan base amongst my friends too. Loved the salmon and the puffy duck dishes.

Ate here last night - it was yummy! Love the shabbiness of the place, and the staff couldnt be nicer.
And the prices!! We had a starter each, a main course each, one dessert between us and a bottle of wine.... dinner for two for less than £40!!!
    I recommend :)

I can't help finding the Time Out reviewer a little harsh. This is fine quality food for the price, and I've been here many times without anyone feeling disappointed.
