Snuggled between antique clothing stores and arty boutiques just north of Portobello Market, this kaleidoscopic café is frequented by Notting Hill's arty set. Choose from all day breakfasts, hefty sandwiches and burgers, or from the daily changing blackboard menu with its choice of meat and vegetarian dishes (we saw moussaka, salmon steak and spaghetti bolognese). There's also a choice of paninis, and pint-sized fresh juices. We went for the grilled chicken sandwich with chorizo, avocado and salad, which was huge; similarly, a standard burger alone was big enough for two without its chips or salad accompaniment. Staff were too cool to smile, but faultlessly efficient. Watch out for Saturdays if you like your food fast: the menu says that's when Uncles gets busy.
