It doesn't take many diners to fill this teeny local Vietnamese, so come expecting cosy conditions, complemented by a spot of inter-table joviality. In an area lacking in cheap restaurants, Mekong does a sterling job at providing the folk of Pimlico with freshly prepared Vietnamese food at very fair prices. The comprehensive menu is divided into meats, poultry, fish and vegetarian, plus there's a Thai section. But we recommend plumping for one of the good-value set menus to share, taking in a variety of dishes, such as delicious crispy aromatic duck pancakes, sizzling chicken with lemongrass (though the zesty aroma seemed curiously absent on our last visit) and sesame prawn fingers, followed by tea or coffee. Service is friendly but not indulgent.
Time Out Cheap Eats in London Guide 2007
London's best review, food and drink news
have eaten here for 5 years and feel it is excellent. slightly close quarters but good service and attentive staff. prefer upstairs rather than lower level. tasty dishes and decent wine selection. will continue to enjoy the food here. need to eat early to get preferred table as gets crowded late.
Portions are small so the low prices don't justify value. The food is bland, has few Vietnamese specialties and doesn't compare to any of the Vietnamese restaurants in Shoreditch. They can surely try harder with the freshness of the ingredients.
