The extensive menu at this typically busy local canteen may look overwhelming but choose carefully and you'll be amazed at how fresh and flavoursome the food is here. Our advice? Avoid the Chinese dishes, which tend to be gloopy and oversauced, and stick instead to the traditional Vietnamese: deep-fried crispy squid with peppercorn and salt (£3) was delicious, and barbecued sugarcane prawn (moist pieces of prawn served with a spicy chilli and rice vinegar dressing) was just as impressive. The ‘Hai-Ha special' of grilled whole fish (a type of bream on our night) was laced with sticks of ginger and garlic and fell off the bone. The place is BYO so pick up beers or wine from the off licence over the road.
