Faced with a lurid cascade of oriental knick-knackery out front there's even an ornamental fish pond we were pleasantly surprised and soothed by the simple white decor we found inside. Sapporo Ichiban seems like a fish out of water, peddling sashimi, tempura, yakitori (grilled chicken on skewers) and soba on Catford Broadway. However, for a Monday night, business didn't look bad at all. Although our dishes didn't always look the part (agedashidofu cut into minuscule cubes and scattered over a plate, salmon and avocado sushi made to look like quaintly English, triangular crustless sandwiches), they did nevertheless taste properly Japanese. Everything came in generous portions but at skinflint prices. Service might be termed erratic: the waiter asked to take our order three times before we'd decided; once ready, we couldn't get eye contact for love nor money.

I agree, it's a fabulous restaurant. And I love the fish pond!
This is the best local restaurant in the world. Brilliant food served by fabulous people. We love it!
I think its time you went back and visited. This place is packed every night of the week! It's one of the best places in Lewisham/Greenwich to get sushi.
What a little find! A friend of mine let me in on the little secret that is, Sapporo Ichiban and what a secret it is! Had a delightful meal of excellent sushi, a couple glasses of wine withgreat company. Would highly recommend it for value for money and relaxed night out. Granted, you do have to wait a little for things but that is because everything is made to order and the staff are so sweetly attentive to every customer they are serving at that moment that others have t o wait a little! Will be back definitly!
cant knock this place. It is so cheap and they are so sweet in here. The sushi is made fresh when you order it! it is still warm when it arrives. This is the gem of Catford. Also very useful when you have a dinner party and have forgotten to cook... they helped me out with an amazing starter the other day which went down a treat!! The eat in 'eat as much as you like' menu is amazingly good value. Also chinease dishes for those who are not so keen on Japanease cuisine!
Slightly odd decor but kind of makes it more interesting!
