Don't be put off by the plastic laminate signs on the windows bearing promises of takeaway pizzas, Everest Curry King is about as close as you're likely to get to a decent Sri Lankan meal this side of Tooting. Look beyond the two-tone lilac interior and black and white 1950s style tiling behind the counter, and you'll notice that the fridges are stocked with Sri Lanka's prime soft drinks brand, Elephant, and even the bottles of ketchup here are Sri Lankan. Highlights included a thick aubergine curry, sticky with tamarind, and the coriander-seed pungency of a rich mutton curry. At £3.50 for a meat curry and £1.75 for a veg curry, it's no wonder that this is a home away from home for the area's Sri Lankan community.
