This simple little caff is still going strong after nearly a decade in the restaurant business, despite its curious location on a corner site of a traffic-laden Croydon road. For most of the week there's a classically Malaysian menu; on Sundays there's a buffet of dishes kept warm on hot-plates. We enjoyed many dishes on our Sunday visit it's clear someone in the kitchen is an excellent cook. A lamb stock soup was scented with cinnamon and star anise, among other deftly blended spices. Beef rendang was also a flavoursome dish, with a clear lemongrass flavour. Not suprisingly, the dishes that were least impressive were the ones that don't take that well to being kept warm for hours on end, such as vegetable stir-fries or fried chicken, which was drying out by our 8pm visit. This late arrival sent the staff scurrying into the kitchen to add some fresh banana fritters and a coconut milk and sweetcorn pudding to the selection.
