The greatest asset of this Covent Garden favourite has always been the building in which it is housed. A handsome Victorian pile, the structure is reputed to have served as a papier-mâché factory, a casino, a whorehouse and a bank before Christopher Gilmour converted it into a restaurant at the start of the 1990s. From the lovely, buzzy downstairs cocktail bar up the sweeping staircase to the cultured first-floor restaurant (offering precious views across Waterloo Bridge), this is bona fide destination dining. Unfortunately, though we’ve eaten well here in the past, the quality of the dining is currently failing to match the eye-catching destination. The food’s not awful: it’s just bland, slightly tired and entirely overpriced. After an above-par cobb salad, californian black bean soup didn’t hold the interest, meat loaf fell far short of its £17 price-tag, and a salmon fish cake was nothing out of the ordinary. You’re probably on safer ground with the long-venerated range of steaks. Still, at £34 for surf ’n’ turf, you’ll almost certainly get more culinary bang for your bucks elsewhere.

We visited Christopher's on a Saturday night, prior to seeing a show. The staff were exceptional - very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was amazing, and, as we had told them it was my mum's 50th birthday, they brought out a dessert with a candle in it... my mum was really touched and I can't thank them enough for making our night so special.
I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone - particularly if you are planning to see a show at the Lyceum Theatre in Covent Garden, as the restaurant is right outside.
Had a very enjoyable pre-theatre meal. My medium-rare streak was cooked perfectly. Good service and atmosphere. Will go again.
My visit to Christophers was a spontaneous decision but the memory is definitely a long lasting one. From the moment you enter the bulding you get all the attention you could wish for. Everything is very high standard but nonetheless you feel very much at home and the atmosphere at Christophers is very relaxed. It almost feels like having dinner at a close friend's place. I had a steak which was precisely cooked to my order and the sides were just a delight. Particularly good were the potato mash with that hint of mustard, the portobello mushrooms and the very tasty spinach. Delicious!
I recently enjoyed brunch at Christopher's and was blown away by the excellent service, quality of food and size of the portions! Word of warning - do not eat before you go there!!
The brunch menu is extensive ranging from breakfast style eggs and fruit, to steaks and burgers. The food absolutely is delicious and the wait staff were lovely, making us feel welcome from the moment we openned the door.
I will be returning to Christopher's in the not too distant future!
Excellent food and the service was great - very friendly and they pay attention to each and every customers needs. The bar is great with superb range of cocktails and a lovely setting. Thoroughly recommended.
I've been to Christopher's a few times before with work friends, and recently took my husband along. I've always loved the place, and my husband was equally impressed. The interior is beautiful, and the food is simply gorgous. The waiting staff are great - friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be going back.
We recently had pre-theatre meal at Christophers from a well balanced menu. The restaurant has a lovely ambience and the staff are attentive, friendly and aware of your time constraints. The meal was very enjoyable and we will be back for more!
My wife & I made our first ever visit to Christopher's on 7th Feb & had the pre-theatre menu at about 6pm. Everything was just perfect - greeting on arrival, prompt & friendly service, food & value for money. I can recommend the rigatoni for main course & you must have the Brownie with bourbon vanilla ice cream - one of the best deserts ever. Portions are not huge but just right considering you have 3 courses, & great value at £19.50.
I visited Christopher's last weekend (7 Feb) with three girlfriends. We were looking for a smart place for brunch and it fitted the bill perfectly. There was a great range of dishes to choose from and the food was delicious. The service was very attentive and the surroundings were relaxing and stylish. I'd definitely recommend a visit.
We booked the pre-theatre menu and really enjoyed both the cooking and the ambience of the upstairs restaurant. The portions were a good size and the choice good - the prix fixe menu was easily affordable. Service was attentive but not intrusive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for an early, tasty, good value supper.
