London's best review, food and drink news
The menu of this very much-loved Covent Garden stalwart changes daily, though you can expect three or four main courses, a selection of salads and a few desserts. The laid-back restaurant is down a steep, narrow stairway that, during the lunchtime rush, is usually filled with a patient queue. Efficient staff move quickly behind the counter; the seating at wobbly wooden tables is decidedly cosy, but somehow they manage to fit everyone in. Moussaka was rich, creamy and full of green lentils, the sprightly rocket, broccoli and red pepper salad a welcome light companion. Quiche of the day was pleasingly full of spinach but had rather too much cheese on top. Raspberry and almond scrunch, the most popular dessert, is all decadence: cream, fresh fruit and a yummy crunchy oat base. You may feel like a removal worker getting in and out, especially when laden with shopping bags, but the crowd is friendly; knock against someone’s table and all you’re likely to receive is an understanding smile. The ground floor offers the same cut-above vegetarian menu to take away for busy office folk on the move.

Friends would describe me as an independent woman with a lot to offer the right man when he comes along! I've got a job that I love but although I...
Food For Thought is an institution, never in my so many visits have i failed to enjoy this sliver of (relative) sanity in the bustle and baggage of the West End. If i want to be assured of having a great meal in a charming atmosphere, that is also cheap i can't go anywhere else, it's perfect would and do recommend it to everyone.
i love this and have been coming here for about 20yrs as i used to go with my folks it is good food cheap and central smashes all the food eateries all around it and all veggie to boot, rockin and rollin
Food for thought... it says it all in the name, fresh, healthy, refreshing and made with love- that is what Food For Thought is all about.
You can sit downstairs and relax on cusions in a cute 'santas little grotto' or eat in the main sitting place socialising with others, engaging in a folk-friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It is perfect for lunch or dinner after a day at work or exploring London- you will never be disappointed. My best friend Celine Gamble
and I come here in our lunch brakes, after work and even after a day sight-seeing,
you always know you are welcome at Food For Thought. We usually sit and unwind in the grotto and relax on the cusions with the low table which gives an Eastern feel. We chat and stay there for hours enjoying suculent stir fried vegetables or mouth watering African dishes sprinkled with spices and herbs, giving the cuisine a real cultural taste. The food is to die for, no matter what option you choose. You will never end up with something you don't like. You don't have to vegetarian to go there and enjoy the fresh vegetables and spices. It works for everyone. Celine and I are vegetarian and are inlove with Food For Thought, the food, the staff, the people and the grotto. Everyone there are happy, joyous and enjoy the great atmosphere at this restaurant. However, we don't really treat Food For Thought like a restaurant. It is more like a casual, relaxing, healthy cafe where you can unwind and forget about everything.
The food ranges from stir fried vegetables to African special dishes and always under £10. The cuisines originate from eastern europe to African. You will always have a different type of cuisine and culture when you go there. The desserts range from nutty chocolate brownies ( great after stir-fried vegetables) to homemade scones. Everything is made with love and care and ends up being the best meal you have ever eaten. Food For Thought fills the gap in the market which tells you that you don't have to go to an expensive, posh and dressy restaurnet to get a quality based meal. It is on your door step in Covent Garden for less than £10 and you even get a cultural atmosphere and food.
Enjoy. I am sure you will not have a bad thing to say after you have visited this superb restaurant.

I love this place. Small, intimate, healthy, vibrant. I'm sure that some would complain about the small space but I love that aspect; the interaction between different people, strangers sometimes even talking to each other.
A small respite from the commerical world of Covent Garden...
