• Los Guaduales

  • There still isn't much of a following for this Colombian restaurant just north of Finsbury Park. And we think we know why. It's not that the service isn't charming, nor that the food isn't decently prepared, but more that the restaurant is catering for cattle ranchers who've just rolled in from a week on the corn prairies rather than office workers who've spent their day sitting at desks. Portions are enormous: T-bone steak was not much smaller than the cow it came from and a fried plantain starter with shredded beef and melted cheese was the size of a pancake and four times as filling. Mains mostly grills come with cassava, potatoes, rice and beans, plaintain or a mixture of all four. For the rabbit-like eaters of north London, there isn't much in the way of lighter options or green stuff and a rather daunting amount of lumpen, dry-beige carbs. If you're a hungry person, pop along. Otherwise, prepare to be overwhelmed.

What!?!?!? This review is totally off, Los Guaduales gives you an authentic taste of Colombian food and culture. Of course it's not for everyone, but no restaurant is. Where else in London do you get a good meal, great ingredients, huge portions, authenticity and a low price? If the portions are too big, share a plate with your date. I say Los Guaduales is a no brainer.

This restaurant doesn't look like a big thing when you walk past and i must admit I wouldn't have entered if it wasn't on recommedation of a few Colombian friends. However once you're inside it seems you won't regret it as the staff is very committed staff and the food is really good. It was definitely the best Colombian food I got in London so far. Try the empanadas which are to die for and if you are a meat lover the steak is truly half a cow. I definitely recommend it if you like hearty tasty food and a full plate.
