London's best review, food and drink news
Som Tam House is a little jewel box of a restaurant, serving well above average Thai food to a Ravenscourt Park and Acton crowd. The dining room is cosy – lined with wooden panels and adorned with papier mâché masks and other bits of Thai bric-a-brac – and the menu features a full range of Thai curries, stir-fries and noodles, plus some good choices for vegetarians. To start, Thai spare ribs were some of the best that we've eaten anywhere in London, steeped in a sweet, chilli-hot marinade and cooked as a rack to keep the meat moist and tender. Penang curry with beef was slightly less earth-moving but still competent, prepared with sliced bell peppers and subtly spiced. Best of all, food comes in generous portions and everything arrives in double quick time.
