Il Peperone
Il Peperone, a family-run pizzeria that occupies a prime site on bustling Putney High Street, is a stone's throw from the river and many bars. However, the food on our visit was a bit of a let down. Bruschetta starter arrived on untoasted bread, with a less-than-generous topping of tomatoes and sliced olives. Pizza mains were likewise unreliable. A prosciutto and rucola version was mediocre; disappointingly, the rocket had been cooked beneath the ham. Formaggio di capra (goat's cheese, roast aubergine and mozzarella) was more successful, with a generous serving of cheese. The menu also offer a choice of pasta, fish and meat dishes. On the plus side, the service was some of the most genuinely friendly we've experienced in London, and the house wine, at £9.95, was very drinkable.
