London's best review, food and drink news
This unpretentious and highly amenable neighbourhood tapas joint, tucked away just north of Finsbury Park, continues to do a successful line in classic Spanish comfort food. There's little to dislike: the trad two-tiered dining space, with the odd splash of decorative authenticity, is comfortable; staff are attentive; and the cooking, while not spectacular, is reliable. The menu is largely a line-up of old favourites, but what we ate was tasty and fresh: grilled sardines; a well-dressed salad of green beans with red onion and raw garlic; a fabada (stew) of chorizo and beans. Cod with chickpeas would have benefited from a bit more fish, but it was still good; estofado (lamb stew) could have been a little bit juicier. A sound choice should you find yourself in the neighbourhood.
