Al-Dar
At this fairly standard Lebanese restaurant – turning out plates of kebabs and rather bland vegetable dishes – the large menus are festooned with vintage photographs of happier eras (‘Lebanon in past time'). This is about as exotic as things get. A list of 25 vegetarian starters and 15 carnivorous mains smacks of meals for families in shopping malls. Except the prices – £9.50 for a dish of unmemorable green beans. To be fair, breakfasts of eggs with minced lamb or Lebanese pizzas of minced meat, peppers and pine kernels are not so meanly priced (£3.50-£5.25) and would rewardingly entice a West End nighthawk or early bird to this awful stretch of the Edgware Road.
