  • Bistrotheque

  • This modish restaurant, bar and cabaret venue is just as popular with regular diners as it is with the fashion crowd, largely thanks to the fact that everyone is treated to the same cheery service and straightforward bistro food. The place is good-looking in a sort of ‘whitewashed warehouse with chandeliers and baby grand piano’ kind of way; the cosy Napoleon bar and adjoining cabaret room are on the ground floor, while the first floor holds the restaurant and private dining room. The short, seasonally changing menu is usually reliable: there is the odd duff dish (radish, artichoke, orange and baby watercress salad was so chilled it was almost tasteless, and poor value at £9.50 as a starter), but more typical were smooth seared foie gras with toasted brioche and rhubarb jelly; super-savoury roast cod, chorizo, tomato, fennel and squid stew, and lush lemon posset with shortbread. Fish and chips with pea purée and tartare sauce (a menu staple) is always worth ordering. And occasionally there’s a stellar dish – most recently a stupendous starter of crab cakes with saffron hollandaise. Brunch is served at the weekends, and on Sundays it’s served to the sound of Xavier at the piano.

Never had a bad meal in 3 years and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended for cocktails, steak tartare and steak and chips.

Fantastic place for Sunday brunch. We love the open bright airy dining room and the colorful bunting hanging from the ceiling is also a nice touch.
We ate there today and had some fantastic food, good fast service from a very helpful waiter.
One minus which did'nt really bother us, but might have been a problem for others, was, by 2-00, quite alot of the main menu was no longer available due to the dishes popularity. Not a good look two hours into a service with a dinner service still to go.
Anyhow, Bistroheque is worth finding and revisiting. I'm already looking forward to my next long, lazy Sunday brunch there.

Very disappointing welcome from the team over the phone.
Might be becoming victim of their own success unfortunately!

I can hardly believe the comments below, because my friends and I went to Bistrotheque with a party of 6, last week, and we can honestly say that we had the best night out in such a long time. Yes, the restaurant is hard to find, but get over it. Call them if you are lost! We did, and the guy on the phone (who turned out to be our waiter, a fellow Antipodean) came out looking for us. After rescuing us, he took us upstairs, took our coats and gave us the option of where we would like to sit. Very impressed we all were, with the menu and the atmosphere. It seemeed quite busy but not too loud. After informing us of the specials and a solitary dish that was exempt from the menu, our waiter politely asked if we would like any reccommendations or assistance. We were never rushed and never forgotten and everything came at what felt like the appropriate time. The Chef has great cullinary skills which all of ours guests enjoyed. After the delicious meal, our waiter subtely informed us that our table was required for a previous booking, however, after my initial disappointed reaction, he organised a table in the beautiful wood bar downstairs to finish our drinks. We had no idea the bar was even there. It was a bit dark but the music and ambience was fine. After another hour of fine drinks, came the question,"how are we going to get home?" Simply answered by the barman who organised two cabs for us. A great evening and we'll be back. Thank you to all involved especially to our waiter and the barman.

I visited this restauant last night, it may have been the company but we had a great experience. On reading previous reviews, I completely agree with the arrogance of the owner, upon asking where the bathrooms were he didn't even look up when giving directions...
However, we had a brilliant waiter who made sure we got everything we wanted, how we wanted. He was also very helpful when choosing wine.
Both courses were to satisfaction, but think it confusing that this restaurant refers to themselves as French as so much of the menu is modern british...
Took awhile for us to get the bill and then pay for it, but they happily ordered us a cab, all in all was a prety good evening.

I was looking forward to a Sunday brunch with friends which ended up being a total disaster at this restaurant. Overall it seemed to be a nice place until you made contact with the “maître d' ” who in turn was the restaurant owner. As the Chefs and Waiters I would feel that this owner is letting me down. I didn’t even get to taste the food due to this owners attitude and neither did I leave a tip or recommend the food, instead I will discourage patrons to visit them. .
As a party of 8 which could not be seated together even though the website clearly state “We are unable to do tables larger than 10 during Sunday brunch service.” we booked two table for four people each. As a group we were happy not to share the same table but with a little common sense you will at least expect to be seated close to each other. With arrogance that we receive from the owner we were seated on two tables on opposite ends of the room even though there were tables available closer to each other. When we asked to be seated closer to each other we were denied a move. We left because clearly the customers wishes could not be accommodated due to this owners own ego.
Luckily there are many places in this area to enjoy a meal with friends, therefore I would never recommend this restaurant. I would encourage everyone to rather move on!! Other restaurants are far more accommodating with far less attitude from the owner!!! What a disappointment!!!!

I didn't even have a chance to try the food! Bistrotheque had been highly recommended by a friend, who arranged for us to have a Sunday Brunch there. Even though their website says that tables can be booked for up to 11 people, we could not book a table for eight. Understanding that the place might be too busy to cope with such a large group, we were happy to be split into two tables, thinking that management would be kind enough to seat us close to each other. Not only did this not happen, the manager placed us in opposite sides of the restaurant, even though there were free tables all over the place. When we asked again, he said he would not do that, and that if we weren't happy, we could leave - which is precisely what we did. Bear in mind, we were not a loud or disorderly group, just a bunch of friends who wanted to have a nice meal together. The manager's attitude was arrogant, rude and inappropriate - and it seemed to me that at Bistroteque the client is always wrong. Dreadful.

Horrible restaurant. The white room is empty without any character. Worst is the staff and especially the Manager with less character than the empty space of the restaurant. I will not recomend this restaurant to anyone nor will I be returning there!!!!
