  • Mango Room

  • Of all the places in need of some Caribbean sunshine, the corner by Camden tube is high on the list. Set alongside instant eateries for the loud and lairy, the Mango Room has made its name as the odd one out. Intimate tables dotted with tea lights fill two dining rooms decorated in shabby-chic style. The smiley calm staff are remarkably knowledgeable about the short but imaginative menu, which puts a modern stamp on Caribbean classics. A starter of plantain and sweet-potato fritters with own-made sweet chilli sauce arrived plated like a work by Miró. Mains and desserts were presented with similar pomp, but the combinations of unusual flavours were faultless. Honey- and ginger-seasoned duck with juniper sauce was delectable, as was a cassava and coconut tart. Clued-up customers largely ignored the sizeable wine list, instead opting for beer or cocktails. The relaxed atmosphere and delicious food keep the Mango mighty, and booking is recommended.

I went to Mango Room on the yesterday for my sisters birthday and it wasn't the best.
The waiter was pleasant considering we were a party of about 15. Service was kind of slow, it took ages to get our drinks and when the food finally came we were minus two meals.. The food on the plates were so small that I can't believe they charged that much!
The staff were a bit weird too, they kept hovering in the shadows by the door watching us.. Creepy.
However, as I said, they were pleasant, the mains were nice, the starters not. The decor was a bit s*** and the chairs were appaulling.
I wouldn't go there again, nor would I recommend it.
I've had better and more Caribbean food in my friends' kitchen.

It was my 25th Birthday, on 15th August.
I booked a table for 12. We arrived just before 9pm. The table was booked for this time. I was angry at the fact that we were left waiting until 9.40pm. The party before us turned up very late and we were focused to wait 40mins. By the time we were seated, i was so upset i couldn't eat any of my dinner. I made sure my friends were okay with their food and drink. I on the other hand felt dissapointed. When i later asked for the bill, we had to wait another 20mins, by this time i'd had enough. I really love this place, but i was really upset by the poor standard on this night. No one even said sorry.

variability is always a problem in any restuarant and the worst night to visit a restuarant is probably sunday or monday.
i beg to differ fromthe above review as i had an excellent meal with high quality food with an excellent vibe.
