Tucked into a backstreet off Atlantic Road, New Fujiyama provides decent music, long shared tables, and a lengthy menu of well-priced food served in generous portions. No wonder the locals appreciate it. The menu ranges widely (perhaps alarmingly for such a small place) across China, Japan and Thailand, with stops for noodle soup, rice plates, sushi and dumplings. We dined well. An order of regular sashimi included prawns and ark shell, yellowtail and bass, and salmon: all wonderful. Gyoza was a triumph of bright flavours. And a big helping of spinach ohitashi was good, though more Chinese than the traditional Japanese rolled greens as it arrived in a sea of sweet sauce, like a Cantonese stir-fry.

Fujiyama is my favourite restaurant in London and a favourite place to take people who've not been before just to see their reactions as they tuck in. The prices are very reasonable, as are the portion sizes. The menu is extensive, with each section usually listing mild variations on similar dishes, but working your way through the menu is a pleasure.
The sushi is gorgeous as are the other dishes and the strong taste of the constitute ingredients coming through the sauce is a great sign of their freshness. It also means that even fairly standard, simple dishes have a little extra to them making them taste even better.
The prices are incredibly reasonable for what you get and the staff are efficient, yet not rude despite the assumed 10% inclusion of service charge.
I just wish this place had some sort of loyalty card.
