Sabors chef is from France, not South America but hes well informed and has produced a tantalising menu, full of dishes laced with tropical fruits, spices, lime, guacamole and subtle salsas. The weekend brunch menu features some of the best dishes from the evening carta. As theres so much to explore, its wise to come in a party and share dishes; a group of four will be satisfied with three choices. The classic Peruvian starter, monkfish ceviche, was tangy and mouth-watering; lamb empanadas oozed with meaty juices that worked well with the mint-based salsa; the weakest dish was duck and cheese quesadillas (tasty but not hot enough). Mains were equally appetising, especially the healthy quinoa pie (enlivened by red onions and thyme), and the tarta de choclo (a delicious corn wrap, with lime and avocado dressing). Several desserts were unavailable, but the passionfruit cake and a Latin version of trifle (which delivered a tart, fruity kick and a shot of liqueur) were perfect. Excellent Argentinian vintages and good by-the-glass options are features of the extensive wine list. There was zero atmosphere at the lunchtime sitting, but this funky little cantina is buzzing at night.
