Bush Garden Café
Shepherd’s Bush may be in the process of transforming itself from an area of urban blight to family territory, but the main artery of Goldhawk Road is still a far from child-friendly place, with plenty of pubs, plenty of traffic and not much else. So this Tardis-like organic café tucked next door to the tube station is a great refuge, with a warren of rooms and the added bonus of a back garden, complete with sloping lawn and a selection of toys to keep the kids amused while you enjoy your coffee. The look is French rustic (pale wood panelling, old mirrors, blackboard menus), but the fare is mostly standard café basics, from smoothies and lattes to builders’ fry-ups – although the only builders we spotted were a couple of five-year-olds putting the finishing touches to a Lego skyscraper in the garden. Service is slow, but, in a haven like this, no one seems in a rush to leave.
