London's best review, food and drink news
Tucked away as it is down a leafy side street near Blackheath station, this small, low-ceilinged restaurant can be hard to find without an A-Z.But with its typically Thai decor (carved wooden panels, dark beams and portraits of the Thai royal family in prime position) and authentic menu, its a much-loved local thats well worth seeking out. Our tom yum was a full-flavoured and delightfully sour starter, and while the pla lard prik (crispy fried fish) was just a slab of salmon, rather than a whole fish, the sauce was so sweet, sticky and moreish that we used our rice to clean the serving plate. The dessert trolley proved our undoing with its delicious, coconut cream-based desserts. It wasnt a perfect meal, though: a disappointing jungle curry lacked the fiery and robust kick it needs, while a mysterious, anonymous figure on the bill turned out not to be the soft drinks but the service charge. Still, the small queue waiting patiently outside in the rain was a clear testament to this restaurants deserved popularity.
