Restaurants

  • Mantanah

    Budget choice
  • Mantanah revels in bold, contrasting and unmistakably authentic Thai flavours. Our wonderfully delicate glutinous steamed pork dumplings were accented with a well-orchestrated contrast of garlic and peanuts. Rings of deep-fried squid and king prawns arrived at table perfectly light. But the real culinary seduction came with the complex main dishes. A northern Thailand special made from top-quality chicken had an earthy depth and a freshness created by banana blossom, bamboo shoots, a spot of chilli and fresh herbs. The dish was typical of the restaurant’s confident preparation of the characteristic bitter and ‘off’ flavours of north-eastern Thailand. A salad of lemongrass-infused shredded chicken was fiery with chilli. The menu lists dishes by geographical provenance making Mantanah a good place to try regional specialities. Don’t be put off by the drab suburban surroundings, or the dining room’s bright yellow walls – the food here is excellent and the service friendly and knowledgeable.

This is a wonderful restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff is friendly. It is a small restaurant which makes it very intimate.
I would go more often if it was slighly cheaper, it is in Norwood Junction after all...

Thanks for all previous reviews-so relieved to find this little haven of originality in an area so full of depressing fast food joints! Do it! The food is gorgeous, the price is extremely reasonable, and I can't fault the service.

    Excellent restaurant, a real gem.
The menu is superb with a wide variety of dishes from different parts of Thailand.
Our favourites were the chicken satay and the red curry; although we will be back to try many other tempting items on the menu.
Ps. This is my first ever post which I feel inclined to give as the quality of food, depth of flavour and the service received was excellent)

Clean and staff are very good.
Food is very fresh and the prices are good.
Just a few minutes from Norwood Junction Br and gets busy on the weekends.
Sometimes they have a Sunday buffet, that is good value.
