Brasil by Kilo
The Brazilian ‘pay for food by kilo' system seems to suit this manic, style-devoid corner of London. Fortunately, the food on show here is fresh, tasty and filling. It's homely fare forged by a mixing of African and Portuguese palates. Highlights include the frango ensopado (chicken sautéed with spices), deep-fried banana and roast pork, alongside staple accompaniments of rice, beans, cheesy bread and salad. Brazil's ‘national dish', feijoada is often available and is not to be missed. If all this seems heavy and you need some vitamins and fibre, try some stimulating guaraná or one of the fruit juices, made from cupuaça, cashew, and passion fruit, imported as purées from Brazil.
