London's best review, food and drink news
On an unlovely stretch of traffic-congested road, this pleasant Sri Lankan café is a definite oasis. Although the menu is limited, the food is well cooked and tasty; the charming owner was happy to explain what was on offer and concerned that we might find the dishes ‘too hot'. We opted for string hoppers, a classic Sri Lankan dish made from a leavened rice batter, which, on arrival, resembled little, white mop heads. With them came a seriously fiery dahl (laced with red chilli) and a tasty coconut sambol, flavoured with dried fish – both set off admirably by the light-textured, delicate hoppers. There are very few places in London where one can eat so well and so generously for under £3 a head. Highly recommended.
