Moody lighting, pumping bass and raucous laughter set the scene at this contemporary kebab joint on our Friday night visit. Both floors (ground and first) were packed with refuelling bar-hoppers, big birthday groups and couples on awkward-looking first dates. But despite the menu’s laudable array of Greek wines, bottled beers (Alpha and Mythos) and dishes – classics such as pasticcio (a baked pasta dish) and moussaká sit alongside the lengthy souvláki and gyros (pitta wraps) menu – there was not a Greek in sight. Bar-style seating, overlooking a giant chandelier and Earl’s Court Road, gives the place a hip, fast-paced feel. Smaller table set-ups at the back of the top floor offer more relaxed dining. We opted for the latter and enjoyed expertly grilled pork and chicken souvláki, kritiki saláta (Cretan tomato and cheese salad with large croûtons) and piping-hot spanakópitta (spinach pie): all packed with fresh, tasty ingredients and of far better quality than the sound system’s rota of trashy Euro pop.
