London's best review, food and drink news
Thai Square enjoys one of the most serene and affordable riverside views going in the capital and the food isnt bad either. Starters of kratong thong filled with garlicky minced prawns and chicken served with plum sauce offered a pleasant crunch, while tod mun pla were perfectly spongy and springy. It was a grand shame, however, that the side salads served with both dishes were drowned in thousand island dressing, which has no place on the Thai table. Som tam (papaya salad) was spicy and tart, and was served with fragrant and tender baked chicken thigh on the side. Jungle curry with beef had a good assortment of vegetables, all of which were perfectly cooked to maintain their bite. Thai Square is far more elegant and singular in its bright but restrained design and in its spectacular view over Putney Bridge than its chain status might imply. Its well worth making a reservation to be guaranteed a prime position in the first-floor dining room, which has the best views.
