Arturo appears to have endeared itself to a crowd of locals, attracted by its modestly priced set menu and a bright conservatory that overlooks perfectly manicured gardens. But just like the stark, 1980s-style dark wood and metal decor, its food lacks pzazz (despite serious efforts with the peppermill by the pleasant but unobtrusive staff). We ordered a variety of dishes including own-made gnocchi in a creamy herb and spinach sauce, and a starter of ricotta tortelli served with butter and sage yet nothing really stood out. Instead of being redolent of tangy Mediterranean flavours, a parcel of red snapper with potatoes, tomatoes, capers and olives came close to the uniform blandness of microwaved ready meals. Even the bread, with its over-crumbly texture, was ungenerously served one slice at a time. The selection of Italian wines is appealing, but not especially good value. This is a passable neighbourhood restaurant, useful if you happen to live nearby, but we wouldnt recommend going out of your way to dine here.
