• 19 Numara Bos Cirrik

    Budget choice
  • Perfect grills continue to garner much adulation for 19 Numara, but the quality is less obviously outstanding now that other establishments are catching up with the techniques. Izgara soğan (grilled onion with pomegranate and turnip sauce) is served as a complimentary starter; its sweet and sour glory remains another reason for recommending this place, although to be fair the dish is now served in many restaurants in the area. A plate of onion with chilli also appeared. There’s a range of perfectly serviceable starters on the menu, but few people need to go beyond what is provided gratis. On our latest visit, the small restaurant was, as usual, very crowded. Kaburga (lamb spare ribs) were faultlessly cooked and very succulent. The böbrek (kidneys) were slightly overdone, but were still sensational. Service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant’s popularity means there are now two other branches: one in Stoke Newington, the other near Hackney Central station. These are popular, but not as good as the original – spreading the 19 Numara effect seems to weaken it. So, the magic may not last, but make the most of it in the meantime.

We tried this chain recently and we were very upset with both the service and the food. The veg options were too greasy and the kebabs were burnt. Not as good as we were expecting. The service was worse of all !!

The food is always fantastic - the mixed kebab is a good deal, you get 3 different salads and jummy bbq bread included for £10.50 (enough for two people). I have been there prob 100 times and have never been disappointed. The new winelist is also very good - go for the merlot (its about £15 - I had the same bottle at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant for £28). The bring your own deal is also good on the pocket.
The owner is such a lovely man! Everyone who works there care about what they do.

This restaurant is one of our favourites and they have recently opened a new venue called Pomegranate which is located in Richmond on the Kew Road. We visited this new venue recently and even though there is not currently a listing for this new branch I just wanted to add my comments. Excellent food now with the service to match

Seduced by TO critics choice we found this restaurant provided a passable meal, served lukewarm (meant to be hot) by unhelpful staff. They didn't do deserts, despite being on the menu. It was not busy when we arrived nor full when we left so no excuse for staff behaviour. People seated near the door did a great job getting up to close the door everytime someone came in to stop the cold. The worst Turkish restaurant experience I have had in London. Devalued your critic's choice
