This branch is a big ASK (the name comes from the combined initials of founders Adam and Samuel Kaye), a 14-year-old pizza dynasty, which also has the more upmarket Zizzi under its aegis. Once hailed as a serious rival to the mighty Pizza Express, it doesnt come close enough in our book. This branch ideally placed opposite Victoria station, so not short of a punter or two impresses initially with its reproduction Renaissance artwork, elaborate cornicing and spiral staircase leading to a prodigiously windowed first-floor space. On our visit, however, it was chilly and the staff displayed a general lassitude. This, combined with smudgy glassware and a tepid pizza, curbed our enthusiasm for the ASK experience. The salad, though, was good and fresh, and the ice-cream delicious.
