A well-stocked butcher’s counter meets the eye as you enter a restaurant focusing on competently cooked, high-quality meat. Large prints of abstract images of old Smithfield market and monochrome photographs of animals grace the high walls of this large, roomy bar and dining space. Butcher & Grill feels like a modern, urban brasserie yet also seems closely connected to the countryside. On our visit, service was erratic; our wine glasses remained empty throughout the main course with no offer to replenish them, while at other times attentiveness crossed into over-familiarity. Starters are less meat-focused than mains, including the likes of seared scallops, and aubergine salad. The second courses offer only one vegetarian dish. Steak and kidney pie was flavoursome and juicy. Tender, succulent roast rump of lamb came with creamed flageolet beans that were salty and very rich. Our desserts – mango crème brûlée, and chocolate fondant with strawberry ice-cream – were enjoyable but too rich to finish. A nice touch is the menu for children, containing the likes of pasta with grated cheddar, parmesan and butter. The wine list has a varied selection by the glass, and there’s a short but inventive list of cocktails.

I'm sociable, outgoing, love to laugh, like to travel. I'm optimistic and don't sweat the small stuff.
I'm disappointed to report that the service at the new Butcher and Grill in Wimbledon village is terrible. As with the Battersea branch, which I frequently visit to buy my meat, the restaurant has really not lived upto expectations. The food in the restaurant is average and over priced with repeatedly poor service (I've given it several chances). So I'm afraid I'll be sticking to using the butchers which is fantastic and cooking my dinner at home.
This is a nice place for lunch if you get tired of the fairly limited options for lunch in this part of Battersea (at a reasonable price range). It is not too pricey and the food is good value for money. However, do not expect to be able to eat in much less than an hour as the waiters seem to be stretched fairly thin at times and it is not uncommon to have to wait for 10-15 minutes before you can order.
