It may be the commuting equivalent of a long-haul flight for central Londoners, but if you’re seeking the capital’s most authentic Afghan eating experience, don’t think twice about hopping on the overland to Harrow. Masa defies its drab high-street surroundings with an exotic interior blending burgundy walls, engraved wooden furniture and a neon-backlit ceiling dominated by a central chandelier. Not that there’s anything formal about a meal here – many local Afghan families eat with one eye on the big screen (tuned to Bollywood station B4U on our last visit). Nor does the food stand on ceremony, with starters like smoky mirza ghasemi (grilled aubergine with garlic, yoghurt and walnuts) and sabzi bourani (steamed spinach, yoghurt and herbs) best tucked into with handfuls of flaky nan fresh from the oven. Ditto the mains, which include various tender lamb and chicken kebabs chargrilled in the open kitchen, and a good range of curries. We plumped for a chicken karahi that was richly flavoursome with just the right level of chilli kick, and a slightly oversalted lamb sabzi that was thick with spinach: both accompanied by glasses of yoghurty dogh flavoured with fresh mint and chunks of cucumber.

I visited the restaurant for the first time last night with friends who are regulars. My husband and I are world wide travelers who have also eaten at many top restaurants serving both British and international cuisine. The Masa served some of the best food we have ever tasted at extremely reasonable prices.
The service was good, although they did forget to take our desert orders after issuing us with the menus. No matter though cos we were stuffed....
I went there a month ago for a meal with a group of 14 being girls and knowing how big the portions are we decided to share between 2, the manager called me over and told me that it was unacceptable and told me i had to eat in 40 minutes very bad service
Fantastic restaurant. One of the best I have come across in a long time. Food is of really impressive quality and the waiters do a really good job. Dont forget to take your own alcohol though, oh another bonus - no charge for corkage! (A rarity these days!)
best resturant in london so far... i luv da food dere and i always take my non afghan mates dere and dey luv da food more den me... i would recommend this resturant to my all afghan and non afghan.
I used to go to Masa every week because of the service by the waiters and the environment and the quality and quantity of food and the price also, but nowadays there is a clear drop in the quality and quality and huge rise in the price. so I would sadly not recommend this restaurant.
Across the road is Mazar e sharif..which is better..
Maza use to be good but it got abit big headed and prices went up also quality of good went down..
Trust me I am a Afghan I know lolz
We have eaten at Masa (which means taste in Dari/Farsi) on a few occasion and would recommended. If you enjoy eating lamb, then try doo-pee-yeh-za.
This should be voted best afghan restaurant in london. very relaxed atmosphere. waiters and waitresses will go to the extreme to impress you, service unrivalled.
This is what i call traditional afghan food.
i've been to the afghan kitchen restaurant in islington and it felt like i was in ikea.food is not afghan at all.
