• Toff's

  • There is a mixed cocktail of influences at work in Toffs. Behind the counter, the staff wear branded T-shirts; the word Fish is spelled out in the tiling of the takeaway area. Yet Toffs isnt all modern touches: a dark-wooden interior at the rear has more in common with a Victorian boozer, and there are signed photos of Les Dennis, Norman Wisdom and Iron Maiden hanging on the walls. Catering to the chattering classes of Muswell Hill an ever-health-conscious clientele fish is served grilled or coated with egg and matzo, in addition to the standard batter option; there are also parsley-flecked boiled potatoes as an alternative to chips. Own-made fish cakes were covered in a pleasantly crisp breadcrumb coating, but we found the interior a little damp; a main of rock salmon was slightly soggy too. But the humungous portions followed by a moist, glistening treacle pudding from the range of trad Brit desserts on offer provided ample reason for a return visit.

I am a regular customer of Toff's of muswell hill and i wholeheartedly believe this is the best british restuarant in london as it had actually won according to the London guide. The staff are extremely friendly and treat their customers like family members with joyeous hello's and emotional goodbyes along with large mouthwaltering portions. A must visit for any food lover with dishes ranging from standard cod and chips to dishes such expensive dishes such as dover sole.

Having visited Toff's for the first time last tuesday, i found the portions of a fantastically large standard, my family were treated really well, from my young daughter Daisy, aged 3 to my grandmother Pat which shows how family friendly the staff are to people of all ages. Toff's is great value for money and my family and i have returned three times already since last week.

The fish was of a great standard, the service close to perfect and the ambience heartwarming and welcoming, i will definately return for yet another enjoyable experience at arguably the best fish and chip restuarant in london.
