London's best review, food and drink news
The brothers are Leon and Tony Manzi, and their smart, friendly restaurant has been a Finchley institution for years. The top-notch fish comes fresh from Billingsgate Market: firm, flavourful cod and haddock, as well as jellied eels, rock eel, cod’s roe in batter, yummy salmon fish cakes, skate wing, oysters and mussels from Ireland, fresh Canadian lobster, and seasonal choices such as plaice on the bone. All frying is done in groundnut oil, and you can have your fish battered or coated in matzo, or steamed. They use real vinegar (no nasty non-brewed condiment), make their own sauces, and the chips – made ‘with only the best Maris Piper potatoes’ – are first-class. If you don’t have time for a sit-down meal (or the money – there’s a minimum charge of £10.95 a head, though if you vacate your table by 7pm you qualify for a 15% discount), you can get the classics in paper wrappers for half the price from the adjoining takeaway counter.

Dined at lunch time, The restaurant looked closed from first glance as you can not see into the restaurant due to the frosted glass effect.
Inside is very basic and has a canteen type of feel to it, However this lends its self to the ambience.
The service is speedy and effiecient but a smile would not go amiss.
The Halibut was cooked to perfection as were the chips although the piece of tomato & lettuce garnish is a bit behind the times in my opinion it was not needed.
I will definatly return to this restaurant next time for dinner so i can enjoy a bottle of well priced wine.
Bottle of Beer, Large MIneral water, Halibut & Chips, Dbl Espresso :-
